Mark Gemmill
BA (French & History), MBA
Mark Gemmill is a seasoned investment banking professional with expertise in M&A, corporate finance advisory, and innovative funding solutions. He began his career at Westdeutsche Landesbank in Düsseldorf, Germany, initially analyzing global capital markets and developing capital market risk management strategies.
Mark quickly progressed to senior trading roles, specializing in fixed income arbitrage and derivatives, before joining Hambros Bank in London to manage emerging market interest rate derivative books.
In 1998, he joined Landesbank Hessen Thüringen, where he led a team of derivative traders and implemented a successful risk management project, freeing up significant regulatory capital.
Mark earned an MBA from the University of Cape Town in 2000 and later contributed as a lecturer at The Wharton School and a senior consultant to its Small Business Development Centre in Pennsylvania, USA.
Returning to London, he worked at Pall Mall Capital on cross-border M&A and capital raising (debt and equity), including landmark transactions in East Africa. Later, Mark managed a housing project in Lusaka, Zambia, establishing a “one-stop-shop” solution for prospective homeowners. Coordinating sales, conveyancing and financing whilst developing systems to streamline the credit approval process and documentation.
In 2008, he founded Gemmill & Associates, providing advisory services including corporate finance, asset and liability management, capital raising, B-BBEE structuring and transaction execution. Alongside, he earned a Zimbabwean Professional Guides qualification in 2016.
Between 2017 and 2024, Mark served as a Principal at CapitalN a subsidiary of Norton Rose Fulbright and later co- founded Quiver Tree Capital, driving B-BBEE equity transactions in excess of R6 billion. In 2024, he co-founded STS Growth, a Majority Black-Owned company leveraging innovative technology-based credit and risk assessment platforms to fund community living schemes in South Africa.
Fluent in German, with extensive global experience and networks, Mark continues to focus on high-impact, innovative ventures.
